Norwegian Cruise Line takes delivery of Norwegian Luna ahead of Miami 2026 debut

The second Prima Plus Class ship adds 1,809 staterooms, 17 dining venues and an IAAPA award-winning waterslide-coaster to NCL's 21-ship fleet, with Caribbean sailings from late March and a New York City homeport from April 2027.

The second Prima Plus Class ship adds 1,809 staterooms, 17 dining venues and an IAAPA award-winning waterslide-coaster to NCL’s 21-ship fleet, with Caribbean sailings from late March and a New York City homeport from April 2027.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has taken delivery of Norwegian Luna from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at its Marghera yard, adding the 156,000 gross tonne vessel to a fleet that now numbers 21 ships.

The 3,565-passenger ship is the second in NCL’s Prima Plus Class, following Norwegian Aqua, which entered service last year.

Norwegian Luna will cross the Atlantic from Rome (Civitavecchia) and arrive in Miami on 23 March, according to NCL, with an official christening at PortMiami on 27 March.

The ship will then homeport in Miami for her first year of service, offering three- and four-day Bahamas voyages alongside seven-day Caribbean itineraries.

NCL says Norwegian Luna features 1,809 staterooms ranging from inside cabins to The Haven by Norwegian, the line’s ship-within-a-ship concept that offers dedicated public spaces, a private restaurant, and butler and concierge service. The ship carries 17 dining options and 18 bars and lounges, according to the cruise line.

The dining lineup includes complimentary main dining rooms, a 24-hour casual eatery, and the Indulge Food Hall with nine globally inspired stations. Specialty restaurants include Le Bistro, NCL’s signature French venue, and Sukhothai, a Thai restaurant the line describes as blending traditional recipes with creative twists.

Among the onboard attractions, the Aqua Slidecoaster returns from Norwegian Aqua. The hybrid waterslide-rollercoaster, developed by German manufacturer Wiegand, was named Best New Water Park Ride/Attraction at the 2025 IAAPA Expo in Orlando.

New to Norwegian Luna is the Luna Midway, an outdoor amusement-park-style area with carnival games and the debuting Moon Climber obstacle course.

What’s the entertainment lineup?

NCL says evening entertainment includes “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John”, a tribute to the British musician, alongside “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder”, described as a multimedia production featuring cirque-style acrobatics and contemporary dance. Syd Norman’s Pour House, a returning venue across the fleet, will stage “A Tribute to Eagles” on Norwegian Luna.

Other spaces include the Glow Court, which NCL says transforms from a sports venue by day into a club at night via an interactive LED floor; the Luna Game Zone with retro arcade and virtual reality experiences; the Mandara Spa; and the adults-only Vibe Beach Club.

From 11 April through 7 November 2026, the ship will focus on Eastern Caribbean itineraries, calling at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island in the Bahamas.

The island is currently undergoing a major upgrade, including a new pier and the Great Tides Waterpark, which NCL says will open in mid-2026.

From November 2026, Norwegian Luna shifts to Western Caribbean routes with calls to Roatan in Honduras, Cozumel in Mexico, and Harvest Caye, NCL’s private resort-style destination off the coast of Belize. Then on 6 April 2027, the ship is set to debut in New York City with four- to seven-day Bermuda voyages including overnights at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said Norwegian Luna “is a powerful reflection of NCL’s ‘It’s Different Out Here’ brand ethos. She delivers freedom, flexibility and thoughtfully curated experiences, allowing guests to enjoy their vacation exactly how they want, with ease.”

Kazlauskas added that the ship “represents the continued evolution of our vision and the incredible work behind an award-winning class of ships” and flagged that NCL and Fincantieri will continue building vessels together over the next decade.

Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division, said the delivery “further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between Fincantieri and NCL, built on a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability.”

He added that the Prima Plus Class “sets a new benchmark for the industry, thanks to cutting-edge design solutions and a level of construction excellence showcased by our Marghera shipyard.”
