Finland has been ranked the world’s happiest country for the ninth consecutive year in the United Nations World Happiness Report 2026, so it’s inviting travellers to “Chill Like a Finn” and find their happy on a seven-day digital detox trip in June 2026.

This year’s UN World Happiness Report examines the impact of social media and constant online connectivity on wellbeing.

With Finland’s close connection to nature and balanced lifestyle ethos notching up yet another top happiness ranking, the Nordic nation invites travellers to log off and disconnect to reconnect.

Visit Finland’s Chill Like a Finn challenge invites international travellers to experience the local way of life during a seven-day summer stay for two to discover firsthand what makes the country’s residents so gosh-darn happy.

Participants will experience Finnish Lakeland, Europe’s largest lake district and a region known for thousands of lakes, vast forests and peaceful cottages.

Instead of a packed itinerary, travellers will focus on mastering the essentials of Finnish relaxation, including traditional sauna and lake swimming, forest bathing, seasonal food and good company and putting your phone away.

Visit Finland Senior Director, International Marketing Heli Jimenez said: “In Finland, we don’t really chase happiness – we tend to find it in small, ordinary moments.”

“When life feels overwhelming, sometimes the best way to feel better is simply to slow down, step outside and chill a little – like a Finn.”

Applications for the Chill Like a Finn challenge are now open until 29 March 2026. International applicants (aged over 18) must complete a two-step process for consideration, including posting a social media challenge in pairs and an application form.

The successful participant pairs will be announced on 21 April 2026 ahead of the seven-day Lakeland trip from 11–18 June, starting and ending in Helsinki.

For travel advisors, the campaign highlights growing global demand for slower, more meaningful travel, particularly experiences that prioritise mental wellbeing and digital detox.

It also offers a strong storytelling hook for selling Nordic itineraries, especially in regions such as Finnish Lakeland that align with emerging traveller preferences.
