Virgin Voyages enters Alaska for the first time with Brilliant Lady and new experiences

Virgin Voyages has officially entered Alaska, marking a major expansion for the adults-only cruise line and giving travel advisors a fresh premium product in one of cruising’s most competitive regions.

Virgin Voyages has officially entered Alaska, marking a major expansion for the adults-only cruise line and giving travel advisors a fresh premium product in one of cruising’s most competitive regions.

The debut season sails from Seattle aboard Brilliant Lady, positioning Virgin Voyages in a market long dominated by traditional cruise brands and mass-market itineraries.

The line says the move responds to strong demand from repeat guests for deeper destination experiences and a stronger West Coast presence. Alaska, it argues, is a natural next step.

For First Mates, Virgin Voyages’ travel advisor community, the launch comes with a 16 per cent commission on bookings and no non-commissionable fares (NCFs).

Its “Always Included” model also continues to cover dining across more than 20 venues, Wi-Fi, group fitness classes and entertainment.

What to expect

Brilliant Lady’s Alaska season introduces a suite of destination-specific onboard experiences designed to shift the focus from sightseeing to storytelling and immersion.

New Happenings cast members include a resident lumberjack storyteller and a naturalist focused on wildlife, glaciers and ecosystems. Select sailings will also feature cultural heritage guides from Alaska Native Voices, bringing Indigenous perspectives into onboard programming.

Guests are encouraged to engage with Alaska before and after each port through workshops, conversations and live interpretation. Virgin Voyages says this creates a more personal connection to the destination.

A range of Alaska-inspired activities has also been added onboard. These include destination briefings, art sessions using natural materials, cocktail workshops inspired by regional flavours, and interactive trivia experiences designed around the spirit of the region.

Dining has been refreshed across the fleet for the season. Chefs have introduced dishes featuring Alaskan king crab, halibut and black cod, while restaurants such as The Wake, Pink Agave and Extra Virgin will serve limited-time menus inspired by the destination.

Bars have also expanded hot beverage offerings and Pacific Northwest craft beers, tailored to colder sailing conditions.

According to Virgin Voyages, sustainability remains a key focus. The cruise line says more than half of its Alaska shore excursions are operated by sustainable tourism providers, while the ship also features shore power capability and advanced wastewater treatment systems.

Elsewhere, the cruise line has partnered with conservation organisation ORCA on whale awareness and collision avoidance training. It will also implement voluntary speed reductions in sensitive marine areas.

Alaska sailings aboard Brilliant Lady are on sale now.
