Journey Beyond bundles two UNESCO sites into a single Far North Queensland day

Journey Beyond's Sailaway Port Douglas has launched an all-inclusive Rainforest to Reef package pairing the Daintree's Mossman Gorge with the outer Great Barrier Reef.

Journey Beyond’s Sailaway Port Douglas has launched an all-inclusive Rainforest to Reef package pairing the Daintree’s Mossman Gorge with the outer Great Barrier Reef.

Bookable now, the two guided products connect Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in the Daintree Rainforest with the outer Great Barrier Reef, both UNESCO World Heritage-listed, across a single Far North Queensland day.

The full-day Rainforest to Reef itinerary departs Port Douglas at 9am and returns at 6.30pm. A shorter Rainforest to Sunset Sail runs across the afternoon and evening for clients short on time.

The launch adds packaged product to Journey Beyond’s aquatic portfolio, which already includes Cruise Whitsundays, Rottnest Express and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, the latter having come under the group’s operational control alongside Ayers Rock Resort.

The day opens with the 90-minute Mossman Gorge Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk, led by local Kuku Yalanji Indigenous guides, taking in a sacred ceremony site and a soap and ochre paint-making demonstration, with bush tea and damper included. The walk marks its 40th anniversary in 2026.

Just one hectare of the 120,000-hectare Daintree can hold more than 30,000 species of plants and animals.

The afternoon shifts to a 5.5-hour Sailaway tour to Low Isles, a coral cay, with three hours on the island, a nature walk, a guided snorkel with a marine guide and a solar-electric glass-bottom boat for those who prefer to stay dry. All snorkelling equipment and in-water assistance are provided.

An alfresco lunch, charcuterie, canapes and select alcoholic beverages are included, and the day closes with a sunset sail overlooking the Port Douglas coastline and the Daintree ranges.

Sailaway Port Douglas is an Advanced Eco-Certified reef operator running small-group sailing and snorkelling experiences to Mackay Coral Cay, Low Isles and sunset sails, giving travel sellers an eco-credentialled option for clients who want reef access without the crowds.

The one-day format suits time-poor domestic travellers, families and inbound visitors combining reef, rainforest and Indigenous culture in a single booking. Both packages carry child and family pricing.

“This new package perfectly blends the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and the lush Daintree Rainforest into a one-day, all-inclusive package,” Journey Beyond executive general manager sales and partnerships Alicia Triggs said.

“Guests can experience the best Tropical North Queensland has to offer, and discover three worlds – reef, rainforest and Indigenous culture – all while connecting with the rich traditions of the Traditional Owners.”
