Photographer Martha Cooper gives us an alternative view of Hawaii through her lens. We’re not talking about beaches.
American photojournalist Martha Cooper was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1940s. She’s been doing photography since the age of 3. She’s best known for documenting the New York City graffiti scene of the 1970s and 1980s. After staying out of the street art scene in the 90s, she’s now journeyed to Hawaiian street art festival POW! WOW! Hawaii.
I love how she talks about the difference between gallery and graffiti art during her visit to the festival. But what I think is specially beautiful is how she talks about looking at things differently and this made me think about how we can all go to the same destination but have completely different experiences.
“Street art is like a quest, it’s like a treasure hunt. It makes you, maybe, take a different route than you’ve already taken because you want to see what’s down that alley, it just makes walking down the street into an interesting past time”
Always stay curious.
