When was the last time your Company did something for someone less fortunate? Maybe it’s time to find out how your company can make a difference.
I recently finished reading Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom, and it got me thinking about the extraordinary lengths this one man went to and the ultimate sacrifices he made for the benefit of a nation.
Let’s face it, most of us as employees or business owners have the potential to be contributing to a worthwhile cause but how many of us actually are? Wouldn’t it be nice to be a part of a company or brand that cares about the broader community and society at large? To know that the company that you own or work for will leave a legacy behind for future generations to come? How do you want your brand to be remembered? Maybe it’s time to find out how your company can make a difference.
Now whilst we can’t all drop everything and fly to Ethiopia to build a hospital or orphanage, we can all make a difference in some way, shape or form. Not everyone has the finances to donate to a charity or can over come their fear of needles to donate blood every month but we can certainly help in other ways like giving our time or expertise to worthwhile causes. Whether it is through support of a small non-profit or larger worldwide organisation, there are millions of Charities and Causes out there that change the lives of people or animals in need or improve our environment at large.
Here at inPlace Recruitment our Director Sandra Chiles is passionate about animals, in particular dogs, so as part of our assistance to the broader community, we are a proud supporter of Assistance Dogs Australia, an organisation that trains Labradors & Golden Retrievers to preform everyday tasks for Adults & Children with disabilities to help improve their quality of life. As well as donating financially, the staff often give their time to help raise funds at many of the charity’s special events and fundraising days. We are also a sponsor of the Sydney Special Children’s Christmas Party part of the Make a Wish Foundation an organisation that brings hope and happiness to the lives of terminally ill children.
So why not be the leader of such an initiative within your work place and make a difference in the world in which you live?
Here are some simple suggestions to get you started;
- Think about the organisation’s business values. Does your company have a mission statement or philosophy? This could help you find a natural direction for a potential charity partner or cause.
- If you are a business owner or part of a company, talk to your customers, about organisations they support or what would they like to see you taking part in?
- Choose a cause that your staff are passionate about. Some of them may have friends or family that have been affected by some hardship that could point you in a certain direction. It will yield better results if everyone is on the same page or equally passionate about the cause.
- Ensure your charity is registered. You want to make sure your money or time is going to a legitimate cause or organisation. (ACNA Register, CharityNavigator.org, Better Business Bureau can all assist with authenticity)
