Jetstar set to expand in Aus & NZ

Qantas' budget off-shoot is expanding its operations in New Zealand and around Australia with new domestic services.

Qantas‘ budget off-shoot is expanding its operations in New Zealand and around Australia with new domestic services.

The airline announced today it will introduce at least four regional New Zealand destinations to its network.

Tourism Industry Association New Zealand said the announcement will boost tourism to, from and around the country.

“These new services will provide a strong regional distribution option for international visitors flying Qantas as well as Emirates, China Eastern, China Southern, American Airlines and their other partners.”

Chris Roberts, TIA Chief Executive

“We know from experience that competitive regional airfares and regular services encourage New Zealanders to travel around the country, to visit family and friends, attend events or for short breaks.”

The budget carrier has been flying in New Zealand for eight years and across the Tasman for over a decade.

Utilising its A320 aircraft, the carrier flies to main cities such as Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.

New domestic flights will help ease fares in the country by introducing additional competition for the country’s main carrier, Air New Zealand.

Meanwhile, today the airline’s boss David Hall confirmed the airline will fly daily from Avalon to the Gold Coast.

It’s the first of two new destinations from Melbourne’s airport – the second is yet to be confirmed.

“We’re delighted to be offering more travel choices from Avalon in partnership with the Victorian Government and airport owners Linfox Group.”

David Hall, Jetstar CEO

“The Gold Coast is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia and we expect these direct flights will appeal to Western Victorian travellers looking for a relaxing getaway,” he said.

“With year-round sunshine, fun theme parks and a thriving food scene we know the Gold Coast is a real family favourite and we’ve made sure these flights are scheduled at family-friendly times.”

2015 has been a year of big moves for the airline. Earlier this year, the budget carrier revealed plans for new direct flights between Australia and China.

Commencing 29 September 2015, Jetstar will fly twice weekly between the Gold Coast and Wuhan – the most populous city in Central China.
