The Langham Melbourne is working closely with the Australian health department to trace the cause of a recent food poisoning outbreak.
During the weekend of 11 and 12 July around 77 people reportedly fell ill after attending a high tea at the hotel’s Aria Bar & Lounge.
Of those guests, around 44 were sent to the hospital with a suspected case of salmonella poisoning – six are said to have been sent to the emergency room for treatment, Herald Sun reported.
In a statement to KarryOn, a hotel spokesperson said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the illnesses.

Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Michael Ackland said tracing the root of the poisoning could take weeks and may have originated from egg or chicken products.
He added that since the initial 36 hours after exposure, no further cases have emerged.
The Langham, Melbourne said the safety and well-being of guests and colleagues is of ‘the highest priority’ and extensive protocols are in place to ensure food safety.
“The hotel’s Quality and Risk Assessment Manager conducts daily food safety checks of equipment, personnel and processes involved in food preparation.”
