The Mountains Are Waiting: Lake Wanaka Tourism's Ski Campaign Is Here

It’s official, New Zealand’s ski season is going ahead and Lake Wanaka Tourism has kicked things off by going live with an awesome winter ski campaign.

The campaign is spearheaded by a beautifully crafted video, which will have Aussies even more eager for that travel bubble to get started.

The video, which you can watch below, is narrated by local freestyle Olympic skier Jossi Wells.

He speaks of the special bond and sense of adventure people share for the mountains.

‘As snow begins to dust the peaks of the Southern Alps, we’re inviting New Zealander’s to imagine the winter to come, and to visit us when they can,” GM Lake Wanaka Tourism James Helmore said.

“The launch of this edit also celebrates the fact that the 2020 winter season in Wanaka has been confirmed to go ahead under New Zealand Alert Level 2″.

Heli-ski operations are looking to take flight in mid to late-June, Snow Farm’s scheduled opening day is June 19, and both Cardrona and Treble Cone are set to open on the last weekend of June.

Meanwhile, NZSki is thrilled to share their plans to open all three of their mountains, The Remarkables, Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt, for the 2020 winter season. 

NZSki CEO Paul Anderson said Mt Hutt in Canterbury plans to be the first to open in mid-to-late June, operating three days a week to start with before scaling up in early July to at least five days a week including the weekend, weather and conditions allow.

In Queenstown, Coronet Peak is planning to open daily from late June, just a couple of weeks later than originally scheduled to catch up on maintenance that was on hold during lockdown.

The Remarkables is preparing to open daily from early July for the two weeks during the New Zealand school holidays and then on the weekends at a minimum.
