He’s called himself the Kurt Cobain of our generation, and for many teenage girls around the world, he’s hailed as a god, worthy of dishing out wise words of revelation that have the power to change the world.
And, it turns out, his wisdom extends to the world of travel agent-ing.
Whatever you think about Justin Bieber, here are seven things he can teach you about being a rock-star travel agent…
#1. YOU’LL LEARN THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS ON THE JOB…
Justin, the wise cat that he is, understands that no matter how many hours of training or studying you do at head office or at home, you’ll learn the most important travel agent skills on the job.
#2. YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES…
You’re going to make mistakes (e.g., NEGS) as a travel agent. It goes with that whole being human thing.
But instead of getting upset when you inevitably do stuff up, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, #BelikeBieber, take it on the chin and be glad you’re not a robot.
#3. DON’T BE ALARMED IF YOU CAN’T GET TO SLEEP SOME NIGHTS…
Worrying that those flights you held in for that important customer are going to cancel overnight in your GDS or whether the deposit deadline was today or tomorrow are going to stop you from getting a good night’s sleep as a travel agent (you may even have flightmares over them).
But don’t worry about it, because it happens to the best of us – even to Mr Bieber.
#4. YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE CRAPPY DAYS…
No matter how crappy your day, week or month has been, understand that the grey cloud hovering over your head will eventually pass.

#5. TURN TO YOUR COLLEAGUES WHEN $HIT HITS THE FAN…
Other travel agents you work with aren’t just colleagues. They’re your mates too, and you should definitely turn to them for a joke or shot of whiskey (or glass of wine) when things just aren’t going your way.
This isn’t me saying this, it’s Bieber, and Mr Beebs is so wise beyond his years…
#6. TRAVEL IS YOUR EDUCATION SO AIM FOR A PHD…
Okay, so the quote above actually means “Don’t fall, follow your dreams. Everything is possible.”
But I’m going to interpret this little nugget of inspiration to mean that you should travel as much as you can. Hell, learn Spanish, learn Japanese, learn bits and pieces of every language and ultimately learn more about this fascinating world that you can then share with your clients.
#7. DON’T EVER BE A DOUCHE & STAY HUMBLE…
Last but not least, be totally humble just like Mr Bieber…
Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you’re a rock star of an agent, winning famils and topping the charts at buzz nights. Stay humble and help those that aren’t doing as well as you are.
