The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has found the national Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS) is the key driver for travel advisors to become AFTA members.
AFTA conducted an independent review of ATAS last year in order to maintain its status as the benchmark accreditation scheme in travel for both industry and consumers.
Destination Artisans Founder Norma Keshishian said ATAS accreditation gives members financial peace of mind and demonstrates that her business is a credible and secure tour operator.
“Becoming ATAS-accredited this year was essential as my business enjoyed a highly successful 2022 – it was the best year I’ve had since opening. ATAS accreditation will now support the continued growth of my travel business through 2023.”
Clout Travel became an ATAS-accredited agency this year, which Partner Melanie Clout said will legitimise her business with new clients.
“With ATAS recognised by major cruise companies, I can manage the backend arrangements my business needs to now set up my own accounts with cruise lines.”

AFTA’s focus on education and training along with the global recognition of ATAS attracted Tropical Lanka Getaways Managing Director Deepthi Wijesekera.
“In my three decades in the travel industry, I’ve been a passionate advocate for the value of ongoing education and training, especially in the new travel landscape, and that’s exactly what you receive as an ATAS-accredited business,” she said.
“AFTA actively lobbies government at all levels on our behalf, so membership fees represent a small price to pay for the value and member benefits you receive.”
AFTA CEO Dean Long said ATAS is a nationally recognised and respected symbol of professional excellence in travel.
“As the industry peak body, the role of AFTA is to continually elevate standards in travel and all ATAS members are benchmarked against strict criteria,” Mr Long said.
“It provides a proven platform for public recognition of professional and ethical conduct, serving to strengthen the reputation of accredited businesses.”
