AmaWaterways will debut two new river ships in 2026 – AmaKaia joins AmaDara on the Mekong River and AmaSofia will sail the Rhine and Danube rivers in Europe. Plus, sign up for the AmaWaterways training webinar on 12 June to win one of four spots on a European river cruise famil in 2024.
With an expected launch date of 24 May 2026, AmaSofia will be the cruise line’s 24th ship to sail on Europe’s rivers with her inaugural journey on the 14-night Magnificent Europe itinerary.
The custom-designed luxury AmaSofia will have 31 departures in 2026, featuring multiple itineraries on the Danube, including the Christmas Markets on the Danube journey.
Meanwhile, AmaKaia is expected to embark on her first seven-night Mekong River itinerary on 3 August 2026, embarking on 22 sailings in 2026 and more than 38 in 2027 with land extensions available in Vietnam and Cambodia.
AmaWaterways Managing Director Australia & New Zealand Steve Richards said these itineraries have been in high demand with Australasian cruisers since the brand launch.
“We’re excited about the announcement of these two new ships, sailing on rivers and itineraries that are proving popular with our local market since our launch a few months ago,” he said.
“We’ll be in a position to meet the increasing demand of Australian and New Zealand travellers on the Rhine, Main, Danube and Mekong rivers.”
