DISCOVERING THE DELIGHTS OF DUBLIN

KARRYON_Dublin_Ireland_tourism

Dublin is high up on the list of capital cities punching about their weight with this amiable address on the Republic of Ireland’s east coast boasting more ways to spend a night out than any New York neighbourhood.

But it’s not all about having a craic with the land’s most significant settlement home to a coveted culinary culture, museums and art galleries, castles and cathedrals, fabulous festivals, and one very famous brewery.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

If Dublin sounds like your sort of town then Etihad Airways can get you there without a worry as the airline offers 14 flights every week to the Irish destination, that’s two flights a day giving you heaps of choice on when to fly.

And decisions don’t end there with the Abu Dhabi-based airline continuing to evolve by promising every passenger on every plane the chance to tailor a trip to suit their exact travel preferences. That makes for a dream journey.

Perhaps it will be an Economy Space seat for extra legroom, a stopover in Abu Dhabi to experience the Arabian hospitality with the airline paying for the second night when customers book a two-night break, or a chauffeur to whisk you home when you get back to base.

So pack your party shoes, as well as a sturdy pair of kicks for walking, and get ready to dive into Dublin.

1. LOSE TRACK OF TIME IN TEMPLE BAR

KARRYON_Dublin_Temple_Bar

All roads lead to Temple Bar which is the city’s entertainment enclave where there’s a pub on every corner, bartenders know how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness, and there’s always a band on stage somewhere.

Try The Brazen Head which is officially Ireland’s oldest pub, step into The Foggy Dew when the venue hosts rollicking “trad music” sessions, and The Palace is the place to go when there’s a big game on the box.

2. WANDER HOWTH’S WINDSWEPT COASTAL CLIFFS

KARRYON_Dublin_Ireland_Howth

No chance travellers will tire of tramping Dublin’s laneways but those in town when the weather’s fine should catch the Dart – that’s the local commuter train – to Howth and stroll the 6km loop traversing coastal cliffs and rural pastures.

The first half of the circuit passes through heather and bracken with seabirds swooping below while the second stretch promises butterflies and bird calls and wanderers will gaze south across Dublin Bay and north to the distant Mourne Mountains when clear of clouds.

3. EAT, EAT AND EAT SOME MORE

KARRYON_Dublin_seafood_treats

Pub grub is an Irish signature but it would be a shame to spend time in Dublin without sampling some of the other gourmet goodies on offer in farmers’ markets, fancy restaurants, and street-side stalls.

Seafood lovers should settle at The Exchequer for a plate of Dublin Bay’s famous prawns and mussels, cool young chefs are cooking contemporary cuisine at swanky eateries like Drury Buildings and Etto, and street-food fanatics are told to try the Saturday Temple Bar Food Market.
