When people think of New York, they often think of the city – no surprises there. But did you know that outside of NYC, there’s an equally diverse and amazing state?

New York State has plenty going for it and for amazing, unique experiences it’s worthwhile venturing outside the city limits. From gushing waterfalls and expansive lakes, gorgeous castles, amazingly fresh produce and craft beer, and raw and wild nature, New York State is an experience for the senses.

As agents, it’s all too easy to think of New York as just NYC. But read on and you’ll be able to create amazing New York itineraries that don’t just include the obvious. Read until the end, too, and you’ll learn how you can win a spot on an incredible famil to New York State, full of “fall” colours and experiences, just by completing some online training.

So are you ready? Here are eight all-American adventures waiting for you just outside the Big Apple!

1. Feel the energy of a New York waterfall

Experience the raw power of New York’s roaring waterfalls. Most famously home to Niagara Falls, seeing this natural wonder from the sky with a helicopter ride or the quintessential Maid of the Mist, is highly recommended.

Outdoor lovers will love the US side of the falls, full of hiking trails and a State Park. You can easily fly from NYC to Buffalo Niagara airport.

Also, check out the stunning 19 waterfalls inside the picturesque Watkins Glen State Park.

2. Jump into the water at one of Long Island’s Atlantic beaches

Ahh the Hamptons… Jump on a train from NYC to explore the historic mansions on Long Island, discovering the lifestyle of the rich and famous before spending the afternoon at a nearby winery, such as Wölffer Estate Vineyard or Channing Daughters Winery.

3. Visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum

Plan on spending half a day here learning all about America’s favourite game. Guided tours are available, or you can browse the museum on your own. Visitors can jump on a bus from NYC to Cooperstown, home to the museum.

4. Stroll through farmers markets across the State

Have a yarn with farmers, meet the local characters and buy the freshest straight-from-the-land produce. Wright’s Farm, North Star Orchards and Guilderland farmers markets all come highly recommended. Make sure you fill your bag with local wines and cheeses.

5. Lose yourself in nature in the Adirondacks

Whether it be kayaking in pristine lakes, hiking the 46 High Peaks, biking between wineries or taking in the stunning views from the Cloudsplitter Gondola, near Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid, the Adirondacks region is the perfect place to truly get back to nature.

6. Pick pumpkins against a backdrop of the fiery fall colours of the Hudson Valley

Time your visit right (September through November) and visit The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, the state’s biggest, most electrifying fall event in the Hudson Valley and have a Halloween you’ll never forget! They even have a Museum of Pumpkin Art this year.

7. Be inspired by peace and love at Woodstock Museum

Inspire your inner hippie. You may not have been alive to attend the Woodstock music festival yourself, but no worries, because this amazing museum will fill you in on the legacy of this historic event, widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history.

8. Broaden your mind on a cultural day-trip outside the city
