The American dream is the belief that anyone can achieve success through hard work. Delta Air Lines says, hold our coat: we’ll do the hard work, you enjoy our success, launching their new flight between Melbourne and Los Angeles. This is the first time they’ve flown this route, which is great news for travellers with Melbourne Airport as their closest international hub!

It’s not only the first: Delta is also the first airline to fly the A350 nonstop from Melbourne to the United States. This is big news, as the A350 offers premium capacity across the airline’s four cabin classes.

Launching this past December (catch the Karryon coverage here), Delta Air Lines is now offering year-round service with three flights weekly, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Flying to over 300 destinations across six continents, more of the world has opened for Melbournians. From LAX alone, there are 150+ daily services to nearly 60 destinations!

Comforts on board

180-degree lie-flat seats make all the difference

If the budget allows, you’re not going to regret upgrading to one of Delta’s signature products in the sky. There’s the Delta One® suite, with a 180-degree lie-flat bed, full-height doors, and privacy dividers between central suites. You’ll be tucked in atop your mattress pad with your oversized duvet and fluffy pillow, making it as easy to nod off as if you were at home.

If extra legroom is the comfort you seek, choose Delta Premium Select, with a wider seat, deeper recline, and adjustable leg and footrests. A plush blanket and memory-foam pillow upgrade your cosiness as you whizz across the Pacific.

Smooth connections

Relax in comfort in LAX at Delta Sky Club

Flying to or via Los Angeles with Delta Air Lines is a major win now, with smooth connections a breeze thanks to a major investment (US$2.3 billion!) in their state-of-the-art facilities at their LAX terminals.

Remember the days when an LAX stopover or check-in left you bored, with little to eat and do?

No more, thanks to the Delta Sky Way at LAX. Terminals two and three are now interconnected with self-service kiosks, speeding up the check-in process. Reduced security lines (hurrah) are the result of larger checkpoints and more automated lanes, and the gate areas are bright with modern seating and views.

If you’re fortunate enough to be flying in a Delta One suite, you’ll enjoy even greater perks, including an exclusive check-in area and security line that takes you to the whizz-bang lounge. At the Delta One Lounge, enjoy champagne, tasty bites, and all manner of seating, including a landscaped terrace, to watch LAX’s non-stop plane action.

There are wellness-focused amenities, too, perfect for recovering from long-haul travel. In a soundproofed room with circadian lighting (revolutionary for an airport), rest in a private relaxation pod, enjoy a full-body massage chair, and borrow the Hyperice recovery leg sleeves.

All this, plus the convenience of the Fly Delta app – with bag tracking, real-time alerts, gate information, mobile boarding passes, and interactive airport maps – and you’ve got the easiest journey from Melbourne to the States.

To Los Angeles & beyond

Let Delta get you to that trip of a lifetime in style

With LAX being a major coastal hub for the airline, which has just celebrated 100 years of flying, the new flight not only gives Australians access to the City of Angels but also offers 150 peak-day departures to nearly 60 destinations across the US & the globe.

Feel like a trip down Route 66? No problem, pick up your rental car (convertible, of course) at LAX, and have an epic road trip adventure to Chicago. Return to LA with three daily O’Hare-LAX flights, connecting onwards to Melbourne with ease, starting June 2026.

Keen to finally tick Machu Picchu off your travel wish list? Or tango in Buenos Aires? Or maybe see Costa Rica’s wildlife? Connect in LA for that trip of a lifetime!

And if you’re due a trip to the UK to see the fam, with some Euro summer add-ons, Delta flies direct from Los Angeles to destinations like Paris, Amsterdam, and London Heathrow.
