Do singles in the Travel Industry have more fun?

Having fun and working in the travel industry are about as inseparable as a novice with his two beers – one in each hand. But do singles have even more fun than the rest of us?

Having fun and working in the travel industry are about as inseparable as a novice with his two beers – one in each hand. But do singles have even more fun than the rest of us?

For singles, Valentine’s Day has the effect of making you question yourself, specifically: what on earth is wrong with me and why can’t I ever have a relationship longer than a Qantas sale?

But before you reach for the wine, turn on Netflix, and feel all sorry for yourself, just remember: single people always have more fun. And especially in the travel industry.

Here’s why…

You’re able to be more social

Without a ball and chain keeping you within orbit of your significant other, being single gives you the wings to mingle with anyone and with any group. You’re totally free to flex your social muscles, without any repercussions and without a jealous gaze peering at you from the other side of the room.

But note: this kind of social freedom comes at a price, as you’ll inevitably end up looking awkward when you attempt to join a group that’s been closed since the 80s. But no worries. That’s a fair price to pay, especially when being this social will dramatically increase your odds of getting down and dirty…

Hooking up is a tri-weekly deal

Maxing out your social game and supplementing your efforts with booze – lots of the stuff – will inevitably lead to stronger connections with certain other agents, and by connections I mean both mental and physical.

What may start off as drunken dance on the d-floor with that girl (or guy) you’ve had your eye on since the last industry night, can quickly escalate into full-public pash sessions in the hazy hours after midnight. And this will eventually lead to the two of you sharing an Uber together, with only one destination in mind…

You’re able to make more regrettable decisions

There are no such things as mistakes, yeah? Try telling that to the poor sod who slept with his colleague, and now must endure awkward morning WIPs and industry events for the foreseeable future – at least until another novice comes through the ranks and commits a similar mistake.

But hey, it’s all just one big learning experience, and as long as you don’t get yourself into too much trouble (which is easier said than done), you’ll live to fight another day…

You’re able to say YES more

Another beer? Yes. Another bar? Yes. Want to go on this famil? Yes. Want to come back to my place? Yes. That three-letter word will be your best friend as a single guy or girl in the industry, taking you places you’ve never been and introducing you to people who can potentially change your world…

The fact is, couples miss out on a lot in the travel industry. So aren’t you glad you’re riding solo?
