Flight Centre is proudly reopening the last of its COVID-closed stores

Flight Centre Travel Group will open the doors of its remaining red-and-white Flight Centre retail stores across Australia, which were shuttered for more than 800 days as the travel behemoth rode out the COVID-19 wave.

Flight Centre Travel Group will open the doors of its remaining red-and-white Flight Centre retail stores across Australia, which were shuttered for more than 800 days as the travel behemoth rode out the COVID-19 wave.

More than 30 leisure retail stores in revamped locations in all states and territories are set to reopen by December 2022, with multiple sites available in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in particular.

Flight Centre says it is now actively recruiting staff “who are ready to hit the ground running”.

Head of Sales, Operations and Network Brent Novak said: “With demand for travel at an all-time high, we feel the time is right to reopen our network and hibernated locations impacted through COVID.”

“We intend to have all hibernated stores reopened and trading prior to this year’s Christmas period and look forward to re-engaging with our local communities and former Flighties.”

FCTG released its full-year results last week, recording a $35 million underlying profit in the fourth quarter, which the company said was driven by rapid sales growth globally after the removal or relaxation of international and domestic travel restrictions.

Travel advisors will be more important than ever in the industry’s recovery.

The Group referenced the “renaissance of the travel advisor” in its FY results, fuelled by travellers seeking expert advice during the complex travel requirements of the post-pandemic environment.

The company said its Flight Centre Australia retail teams are expertly placed to lead the way in providing this high-level touchpoint and support to customers.

FCTG’s global store network currently includes 469 stores with an additional 43 (38 Flight Centre shops and five Travel Money outlets) set to reopen by the end of 2022.
