HX Expeditions is expanding its long-term investment in the Galápagos Islands, announcing a new standalone brochure, updated itineraries for 2027–28 and a three-year extension of its local partnership.
The renewed agreement with Metropolitan Touring, HX’s regional partner and the longest-running travel operator in the Galápagos, will extend their original five-year charter through to 2029. According to HX, the collaboration underscores their shared commitment to “responsible, science-led exploration” in one of the world’s most ecologically significant destinations.
The announcement coincides with the launch of HX’s 2027 and 2028 Galápagos seasons, with bookings set to open online from 22 December 2025. In January 2026, HX will also release a dedicated Galápagos brochure and a series of short films featuring Monty Halls, the company’s new ambassador and President of the Galapagos Conservation Trust.

“As we celebrate 130 years of exploration next year, our ongoing partnership in the Galápagos reflects exactly what HX stands for: connecting guests with the world’s most remarkable environments through responsible, science-focused travel. The wildlife, the conservation work, and the immersive experience our guests can have there are truly like nowhere else on the planet,” said HX CEO Gebhard Rainer.

HX Expeditions will continue to operate its carbon-neutral Galápagos program onboard the 50-cabin MS Santa Cruz II, a ship equipped with 36 interconnecting cabins (the most in the region), ideal for multigenerational travel. The vessel includes a locally inspired restaurant, Science Center, Discovery Room, sky deck, hot tubs and fitness facilities.
Four curated programs will be available:

- In Darwin’s Footsteps + Machu Picchu (14 days): Combines the Eastern Route with a five-day pre-cruise exploration of Machu Picchu.
- Northern Route: Nine of the Best Isles (11 days): A wildlife-rich circuit of nine islands, ideal for active travellers keen on kayaking, snorkelling and nature photography.
- Nine of the Best Isles + Machu Picchu (16 days): A full South American adventure linking Peru’s famous ruins with Galápagos wonders.

Each trip begins in either Quito or Guayaquil, Ecuador, with optional extensions to Lima, Peru.
What’s behind HX’s conservation focus?
HX highlights its sustainability credentials with every voyage to the Galápagos. The line claims its operations are fully carbon-neutral, with all emissions offset through active reforestation and biodiversity programs. It also supports local scientific work through its onboard Science Center and guest education programs.
New brand ambassador Monty Halls, recently returned from the islands, said he was “blown away” by the level of conservation involvement: “Every traveller who journeys with HX contributes directly to its protection – this is tangible, measurable conservation.”
According to HX, the extended partnership with Metropolitan Touring ensures long-term investment into the region’s communities and ecosystems, solidifying the cruise line’s leadership in sustainable travel.
How does this help agents?
With dedicated brochures, expanded itineraries, and new ambassador-led content, HX is giving travel sellers more tools to promote high-yield, purpose-driven product in a market segment increasingly motivated by sustainability and soft adventure. The company’s extended partnership also offers stability and product continuity through to 2029, a boon for forward planners.
For families, couples and bucket-list travellers, HX’s mix of nature, science and exclusive access creates a strong case for premium expedition cruising in South America.
KARRYON UNPACKS: For agents, HX’s long-term Galápagos strategy signals rising demand for expedition cruising that blends eco credentials with deep cultural experiences, offering a distinctive alternative to mainstream luxury voyages.
