Infinity Holidays and Quickbeds took part in a community building exercise last week organised by the Flight Centre Foundation.
More than 30 Infinity and Quickbeds teams created Christmas hampers for specific demographics of people in need. The result of the exercise was one tonne of food or 1333 meals donated to Foodbank Australia, Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation.
According to Ken McMillan from Foodbank Queensland, at any time in Australia there are two million Australians living below the poverty line and half of those are children. You and your people have made a real difference to some of those people at Christmas time, you cannot underestimate the impact.
Ken also gave a talk on the day in which he shared some amazing statistics:
- Foodbank provides an astounding 109,000 meals a day
- In travel industry terms that’s 14 Boeing 747’s in weight per year
- Foodbank supports over 2500 charities
- Demand for food still outstrips supply
- 60,000 people are turned away from charities each month
As an ongoing support mechanism the Flight Centre Foundation organises ‘Workplace Giving’ for the Flight Centre Travel Group’s employees and the company matches employee donations dollar for dollar.
At the moment 25 percent of Infinity staff contribute a portion of their wage every month through ‘Workplace Giving’ and these donations are used to support Foundation partner charities, Redkite, Youngcare, Bush Heritage and of course Foodbank. In the new year the foundation will also add Cambodian Children’s Trust and the Kokoda Track Foundation as partners.
The Flight Centre Foundation was the proud recipient of Foodbank’s Partnership Award this year, recognising a broad range of support for Foodbank including donations, volunteers, food drives, Christmas gifts etc. There are Foodbank food drives in FCTG head offices around the country this Christmas.
Infinity Holidays would like to thank the Flight Centre Foundation and Foodbank Australia for affording them the opportunity to give back to the community and look forward to contributing time and financial support in the future.
