IT'S OFFICIAL: Travel Agents really do want to change the world through travel

Every time a hotelier, cruise line or operator stops using single-use plastic, they get a major tick of approval from Travel Agents who have flagged sustainable travel as a top priority.

Every time a hotelier, cruise line or operator stops using single-use plastic, they get a major tick of approval from Travel Agents who have flagged sustainable travel as a top priority.

A study conducted by G Adventures on Travel Agents worldwide found that working in the industry means more to consultants than winning trips and creating dream itineraries, it’s an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world they live in.

Some 71 percent of Agents identified themselves as “purpose-orientated”, which according to G Adventures Founder Bruce Poon Tip, means that they want to use their position to promote sustainable travel.

The finding is in line with recent industry trends, particularly among travel groups such as Flight Centre and Travel Counsellors that recently launched their own internal sustainable programs.

Speaking at World Travel Market, Bruce also revealed that some 91 percent of consultants said they were satisfied in their jobs, so-much-so that some 34 percent stay in their jobs for more than 10 years.

“Travel Agents are purpose driven, they love what they do and they want to change the world through travel. Our survey proves that.”

G Adventures recently made it easier for consultants and their clients to book sustainable tours by introducing a ‘Ripple Score Rating’ that evaluates the sustainability of each of the operator’s trips.

Travellers will be able to see the Ripple Score for G Adventures trips on the company website or inside the 2019 brochure released mid-November 2018. Click here for more information.
