Did you take part in the recent Japan Tourism E-Learning competition? If you did you’ll have learnt plenty along the way and now know just how much awesome stuff there is to see and do in one the fastest growing countries for visiting Aussies.

Of course, the lucky 16 agents who got to take part in the two famils in Japan’s North and South lucked in even more by getting to experience the country first hand.

Looking at the photos and the video from the Kyushu Island trip that KARRYON Founder Matt Leedham created (below) – they all clearly had a blast.

But if you didn’t manage to win yourself a spot on the two famils that went over to Japan this time, don’t worry!

We asked some of the winning agents for their thoughts on what they loved most about Japan and what they thought their clients would love too. Here’s what they said as their top tips.

1. Food, food, food! I love the food!

Mmm.. Ramen!

Mmm.. Ramen!

“The food in Japan is truly magnificent. All of it is so healthy and just so good! The Japanese really do know how to look after you and make you feel special. The general standard of hotels, the cleanliness… It’s just amazing. I think my clients would love exploring the mix of the old and the new in Japan. From the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku in Tokyo to the historic Kumamoto castle down south – no matter what kind of experiences you are looking for, I think you’ll find it here.”

2. A nature lovers paradise

“I’ve absolutely loved being among the stunning nature and seeing the beautiful colours everywhere. The Zen gardens were out of this world. We’ve seen the country at the end of Autumn but I can only imagine how incredible it must be visiting at Cherry Blossom time. A lot of my clients would love Japan. The vast difference between the north and the south and then Tokyo again and the cities will be very appealing to them and I know they’ll be interested to hear just how diverse this country is. I’m already thinking about my next trip too!”

3. There’s culture to experience everywhere you go

“Many of my clients are big on connecting with the places they visit and learning about the culture to get a deeper understanding of how a society works. So visiting shrines, trying different foods and just exploring this country will be extremely appealing to my clients. Even just checking out the Vending machines and the bizarre things they sell! Or the traditional Geisha girls and their gorgeous Kimono’s – there’s just so much to experience and the people here are so friendly that they instantly make you feel welcome wherever you go.”

Rachael Atkins, Travel Managers, Melbourne

4. Japan will open (and blow) your mind!

Ibusuki Sand Bath Japan

How about an Ibusuki Sand Bath?

“Japan is full of surprises and will definitely make you think differently about life in general – in a good way! At first glance, Japan might seem a little overwhelming, but once you get your head around it you soon realise what an incredible place it is. My job as a Travel Agent is to share that knowledge and inspire people to venture further outside of the Ski and Tokyo centric attractions. This famil has been really useful because it’s helped me to start thinking about itinerary building throughout Japan and the kind of bespoke trips we can offer alongside the likes of coach touring and cruise options. The Sand Bath we had in Ibusuki was something I’ll never forget and a story I will be telling at many dinner parties to come!”

Nicky O’Rafferty, Escape Travel Ballina

5. It’s all about the little things in Japan

Japanese-toilet

This toilet even comes with its own body fat analyser and remote control

“I love the way that the Japanese have literally thought of everything. The level of detail and design thinking here is incredible. From the famous toilets (The heated seats – amazing!) right down to having somewhere to put your baby while you’re on the toilet! It sounds kind of funny, but this society has literally thought of everything to make your life easier and there is a system for everything to go with it. Because of that, it actually makes Japan really accessible. A common myth is that Japan can be intimidating and hard to get around here, with the language barrier making it complicated, but the reality is Japan is a breeze to get around as it’s so well organised, safe and the people are so keen to help.”
