We wanted to help you out this season with a handy gift guide for travellers. You may know someone like our social media guru and design extraordinaire Candice, here’s some great gift ideas.
What is the most you’ve spent on a single trip?
I travelled to Europe last year for two weddings. The trip was amazing but very pricey because we wanted to squeeze in as much as possible outside of the wedding dates and locations… I really value my memories but I’d rather not say a figure! #stillpayingforit
What’s your top 3 shopping destinations?
I still rate Melbourne as an amazing place to shop! The city is set up for walking and exploring and there are some pretty amazing places to stop for a drink or a meal in between independent boutiques. Outside of Australia I have loved shopping in New York and in Barcelona.
New York because it really the ultimate destination for girls obsessed with fashion. Not only can you break the bank with options but it feels like the people of NY are straight from the pages of The Sartorialist. It’s easy to be inspired.
Barcelona because the fashion is great and super cheap compared to Australia! Plus the Spanish lifestyle makes for a great way to shop. The shops are open so late you can spend the afternoon by the pool or bar and then go shopping when it’s much cooler. *Warning: shop after a few drinks at your own risk.
What is the worst/weirdest thing you’ve purchased while away?
I am a bit of an impulse purchaser so there are plenty of questionable things I have dragged back home. I think there are definitely some ‘fashion statements’ I purchased in Europe & South East Asia that seemed perfect when I was there but really haven’t worked in my everyday life after a holiday. Think linen shirts and fisherman pants…
How do you stay entertained travelling to your destination?
Music is a big part of my journey! I spend a lot of time leading up to trip planning & building multiple playlists for each part of my holiday. My iPod has playlists with titles like ‘Holiday dreaming’, ‘On the Plane’, ‘Chillout Pool’, ‘Going Home’ etc… When I was younger I used to invest a lot of time in travel journals, which are great to look back at years later! But now I love losing myself in a good book. Sometimes a long flight is the only time I have to read.
What’s a weird travel habit that you must do wherever you go?
Hotel robes! I am not sure how weird this is but the first thing I do when I get to my hotel room is check out the hotel robes and the bathtub.
One of the things I judge a hotel on is the quality of their robes and depth of their tubs.
I am also ridiculously early for all of my flights. I hate those heart attack moments at the airport so I would rather check in early and swan around Duty Free. My boyfriend finds that more annoying than weird…
