Travel Alberta has partnered with Rocky Mountaineer to showcase a Taste of Alberta at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel, on the evening of Wednesday, 3 December, 2014.

Special guest, Rocky Mountaineer’s award winning Executive Chef, Jean Pierre Guerin, will demonstrate his skills, made famous on-board the gourmet rail experience that travels from Vancouver or Seattle into the Rocky Mountain townships of Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff in Alberta, Canada.

Guests enjoy exceptional service and an elegant dining experience while stunning views of the mountainous landscapes and cascading waterfalls unfold outside.

“Rocky Mountaineer’s innovative menus celebrate the distinctive flavours of the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada – and we’re delighted to be sharing some of our local specialities with Australia.”

Agents will be placed into cooking groups and allocated one sous chef from Sydney Cooking School to assist them in preparing some of Jean Pierre’s classic dishes.  Taste buds will be tantalised as agents prepare roasted beef tenderloin, caramelized shallot compote with merlot wine reduction or maple cured fresh salmon fillets with an emulsified western red cedar dressing.

Commenting on the event, Lizzie Doyle Market Development Director for Travel Alberta, Australia said, “ A Taste of Alberta is an extension of our Experience Alberta agent training program where we bring the experience to the agents, rather than traditional boardroom training.  We have proven through past events that agents are more engaged and enthused to sell Alberta as a result.

“As well as the fabulous cuisine served on-board the Rocky Mountaineer, we will also highlight diverse summer activities, outdoor adventure, scenery and unique stays available in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta.”

“We will share them through video interaction on the night and agents will be given gift bags featuring Australian tour operator packages for Alberta and Rocky Mountaineer, making it easier to sell the destination.”

Air New Zealand, the official airline partner for the event, is giving away a return trip for two to Canada ex Sydney, including a ground prize provided by Rocky Mountaineer and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, with bucket list Canadian Rockies activities thrown in by Brewster, including the Glacier Skywalk and the Athabasca Glacier, Columbia Icefield Ice Explorer.  Runners-up will receive copies of Rocky Mountaineer’s cookbook, Eat Play Love, featuring regionally inspired cuisine and signed by Jean Pierre himself.
