Australian Airports Association (AAA) has named Simon Westaway as the new Chief Executive Officer, bringing more than 25 years’ senior executive experience to the role and representing Australia’s $105 billion sector of over 340 airports and airfields.

Westaway has previous associations with the aviation and travel industry, having held executive positions at Jetstar, Tourism Australia, and Impulse as well as Executive Director of the Australian Tourism Industry Council. He will officially commence in the CEO role on 4 November 2024.

AAA Chair Kym Meys said the appointment reflected Westaway’s depth of industry knowledge and success in engaging with the highest levels of government.

Of his new role, Westaway said he was excited to work on behalf of the airports sector and the AAA’s aviation and corporate members amid promising times for the industry despite competition and regional carrier challenges.

“Australia’s airports and aerodromes are essential in connecting people and produce throughout our country and the world,” he said.
