Movers + Shakers: Alaska Airlines elevates Andrew Stanbury to lead South Pacific region

Alaska Airlines has appointed Andrew Stanbury as Regional Managing Director, South Pacific, placing the long-time aviation exec at the helm of the airline’s growing footprint across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

Based in Sydney, Stanbury will oversee the performance of all Alaska Airlines routes across Australia, New Zealand, French Polynesia and Cook Islands.

The appointment comes as Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines continue integrating operations while expanding their international reach and fleet.

Stanbury brings extensive regional experience to the role. Originally from New Zealand, he relocated to Australia in 2008 and also spent three years working in Fiji, giving him a deep understanding of the South Pacific aviation landscape from previous roles at Hawaiian Airlines, Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand.

Alaska Air Group said the leadership move supports its broader strategy to strengthen global operations and deliver a more premium travel experience for international guests.

Stanbury said: “As these two great brands combine, I look forward to working alongside our amazing South Pacific team to deliver even greater experiences, comfort and choice for our guests.”

Stanbury’s appointment forms part of a broader leadership announcement across Alaska Airlines’ international network.

The airline has also appointed soon-to-be-London-based Cees Verkerk as Managing Director for the UK and Europe, while Seoul-based Soojin Yu has been named Regional Managing Director, Asia.

As the two carriers move forward as one team with two distinct brands, the combined global network now spans more than 140 destinations, including includes 29 international markets across North America, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific with European services expected to launch in the Northern Hemisphere spring.
