Movers + Shakers: CLIA Australasia appoints Peter Little as new Chair; board changes

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA Australasia) has announced Carnival Australia's Senior Vice President & Country Manager Peter Little will succeed NCL’s Ben Angell as its new Chair in Australasia.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA Australasia) has announced Carnival Australia’s Senior Vice President & Country Manager Peter Little will succeed NCL’s Ben Angell as its new Chair in Australasia.

Little takes over from Norwegian Cruise Line APAC Vice President & Managing Director Ben Angell, who has concluded his two-year term as head of CLIA’s Australasian board.

As CLIA Chair, Little will lead the Executive Committee of Ben Angell, Stuart Allison (Princess Cruises Senior Vice President – Asia Pacific, UK & Europe), Lynne Clarke (MSC Cruises Australia Chair), Deb Corbett (Ponant General Manager Sales & Marketing Asia Pacific), Andrew Millmore (Travel the World Group Executive Chair), Gavin Smith (Royal Caribbean Group Vice President & Managing Director Australia) and Jason Worth (Oceania Cruises Vice President, International Sales).

Past CLIA Chair Sarina Bratton has also announced she will step down from the board after almost three decades of service.

As a founding board member in 1996, CLIA Hall of Fame award recipient and a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant services to tourism, Bratton has been recognised for her integral role in the cruise industry and business.

CLIA Australasia Managing Director Joel Katz said: “Sarina has been a standard-bearer for the Australasian cruise industry in ways that will have a lasting legacy for our community.”

“She is a genuine pioneer of cruising in this part of the world, a highly respected businesswoman and the first woman to be a cruise line founder.”

Steering into the future

Katz said incoming Chair Peter Little would provide important stewardship as the buoyant industry worked hard to cement its long-term success.

“Peter is a respected industry leader who has been integral to the strength of the Australian cruise sector for many years,” Katz said.

“He has shouldered responsibility for a very broad and complex range of maritime operations throughout his career and commands a great deal of admiration from across the cruise fraternity.”

Katz also paid tribute to Angell’s work and dedication as CLIA Chair during a period of positive renewal.

“Ben Angell has brought his considerable energy and enthusiasm to CLIA at a time when our industry has shone like never before,” Mr Katz said.

“We are grateful for his guidance and he will continue to play an important role in CLIA’s success into the future.”

CLIA Australasia’s role in the resurgent cruise industry

With more than 20 years’ experience in the cruise sector, Little said it is an honour and a privilege to step into the role.

“The role of CLIA is crucial to steering the industry’s path to the future. CLIA’s leadership and advocacy functions across the sector are vital to securing the benefits cruise tourism delivers across the economies of Australasia,” he said.
