Flight Centre operations in New Zealand will be headed by a familiar face, with David Coombes returning to the country as the new Managing Director.
Coombes makes a comeback in Land of the Long White Cloud from the US where he held the title of Senior Vice President of Product.
He replaces Chris Greive, who steps down from the MD role in February after 30 years with Flight Centre.
Coombes said he’s returning to New Zealand at a time when there has “never been a better time for New Zealanders to take an overseas holiday”.
“We’re seeing average price points on fares come down so it’s more affordable than it’s ever been and with more range.”
David Coombes, Flight Centre Managing Director
“It’s really opened the world up and keeping things affordable.”
Coombes began his career with Flight Centre in 2000 as a travel consultant in Brisbane. He’s since worked his way up the ranks over the last 15 year to hold various titles including Ticketer, Supply Relationship Manager and more.
He spent two years working for the company in New Zealand back in 2011 to 2013 as Product General Manager before moving to the US.
Greive has agreed to continue with the company in an advisory role and will likely assist Coombes initially in the new role.
