Plantation Island Resort has welcomed experienced and longtime Fijian hospitality industry stalwart Rodney Samuels as its newest General Manager to oversee the family-focused resort in the Mamanucas that’s popular with Aussie travellers.
Relocating from New Zealand to Fiji, Samuels takes over the role from Alex Wilson, who returns to Australia after a six-year tenure at Plantation Island Resort.
Samuels is no stranger to Fiji, having spent more than 14 years working across resorts as part of the pre-opening team for the (Sheraton) Vomo Island Resort in 1994.
He returned in 2004 to take on management and operational positions at Tropica Island Resort on Malolo Island, Doubletree Resort by Hilton in Fiji, Sonaisali Resort and Hilton Fiji Beach Resort until 2022.
In addition, he leveraged his regional expertise to launch a hospitality consulting business in 2020, advising Fijian investors and operators on a range of management and operational concerns.

Samuels said: “I consider Fiji to be my second home and am thrilled for the opportunity to return to this world-class destination.”
“Joining the exceptional team at Plantation Island Resort is an absolute career highlight for me and I am truly committed to working alongside such an inspiring group of people each day to elevate our guest experience to the next level.”
Raffe Group CEO Lee Pearce paid tribute to former GM Alex Wilson and welcomed Samuels to the team.
“I’d like to express our sincere gratitude for the massive impact of outgoing general manager Alex Wilson, his legacy will carry the resort forward long after he departs,” he said.
“Now, we are delighted to welcome Rodney to the Raffe Group. We are confident that Rodney will thrive given his genuine understanding and passion for Fijian culture and local experiences.”
