Movers + Shakers: Wayne Borland soars to Qatar Airways Country Manager Australia role

Qatar Airways has appointed Wayne Borland as Country Manager - Australia (East), further bolstering its executive team Down Under. 

Qatar Airways has appointed Wayne Borland as Country Manager – Australia (East), further bolstering its executive team Down Under. 

Borland brings over 25 years of experience in the airline industry to the role following stints at Aircalin, Air New Zealand, American Airlines and most recently Etihad Airways, where he plied his trade for more than 13 years. 

In addition to his aviation experience, he has also worked in diverse roles at companies like Carlson Wagonlit and Movenpick Hotels.

“I am delighted to be joining such a prestigious airline and look forward to being part of Qatar Airways’ ongoing growth in Australia,” Borland said. 

“I have been fortunate enough to have lived and worked in Sydney and Melbourne, London, Riyadh, Los Angeles, Jakarta and Beijing during my career, allowing me to gain an international perspective of the travel industry.”

Qatar Airways Regional Manager Australia and New Zealand, Justin Kestel, said Borland’s arrival came during a “significant period, as we continue to expand our services across many regions around the world”.

Last month, Qatar Airways named Badr Al Meer new Group CEO following the retirement of Akbar al Baker after 27 years of service.

The Doha-based carrier also recently announced a renewed partnership with FIFA as its official global airline, supporting the World Cup 2026, Women’s World Cup 2027 and World Cup 2030 as well as FIFA youth events.
