Royal Brunei Airlines has tapped Giles Gilbert to take the reins of its Australian operations, naming him Country Manager.
Based in Melbourne, Gilbert will lead the airline’s local team across sales, marketing and route performance, while continuing to build the RB brand in the Aussie market. His appointment highlights the carrier’s focus on strengthening commercial activity and ensuring its product resonates with Australian and Oceania travellers.
According to the airline, Australia plays an important role in its network, linking Melbourne with Brunei and onward to destinations in Asia, the Middle East and the UK via the Kangaroo Route. By appointing a dedicated leader, RB says it wants to sharpen its efficiency, expand market share and keep its service standards aligned with traveller expectations.

The airline also plans to deepen its engagement with travel partners, corporates and tourism boards under Gilbert’s watch, while showcasing its premium offerings to both business and leisure markets.
“I’m delighted and excited to be rejoining Royal Brunei Airlines as we enter a new phase of growth,” Gilbert said.
“With more services and new destinations in Australia on the horizon, a new fleet of aircraft on the way, a focus on stronger trade partnerships, it’s a great time to be joining RB as we are creating fresh opportunities for travellers, and inviting them to discover the hidden gem of Brunei and beyond.”

Royal Brunei currently operates five weekly services from Melbourne to Bandar Seri Begawan, with onward connections supported by codeshare and interline agreements with Qantas and Virgin Australia.
The carrier recently took part in Karryon’s Niche is Nice 2025 boutique travel roadshow, which concluded with sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne after opening with a bang in Brisbane.
