It’s the way of the travel industry – one day you’re working for one company and the next you’ve taken your experience and knowledge over to another.

The latest heavy hitter to make a big (and unexpected move) this week is Joe Ponte – the soon-to-be former General Manager of Global Sales and Marketing at Insider Journeys.

Ponte has accepted the role of Country General Manager for Asia Pacific at Topdeck where he’ll be in charge of leading the company’s APAC operations into the future and contribute to the company’s overall global direction.

As part of the new gig, Ponte will relocate from Sydney to Brisbane in the new year and officially start work with the tour operator from 1 February 2016.

Topdeck’s Global Brand Director, Sarah Clark, said the marketing guru was recruited because of his extensive leadership experience and industry relationships.

“We are focused on bringing together the right people to create a strong direction for the future evolution of Topdeck Travel.”

“The company’s long-term growth strategy is about driving the local team forward and contributing to the overall global direction of our leading youth travel brand.

“I am confident that Joe will be a huge asset to the team and I am thrilled to be welcoming him to lead our talented group of Topdeckers across Asia Pacific.”

Ponte has had a wealth of experience in travel, having commenced his journey as a retail travel consultant at Flight Centre.

He worked his way up to the role of National Marketing Manager for the brand in Australia before moving to Stockland where he headed up the retail group’s domestic marketing.

In August 2014, Ponte accepted the role of General Manager of Global Sales and Marketing where he worked alongside Paul Hole to successful rebrand the tour operator.

His resume also includes the implementation of Brand USA into the Australian marketplace, inspiring travellers of all ages and contributing to the increase in outbound traffic to this destination.

Join us in congratulating Ponte on his new role.
