1. Joe Karbo steps into newly created role at Wendy Wu Tours

Former Excite Holidays General Manager, Joe Karbo, is taking over Wendy Wu Tours as the new Group Chief Executive.

His appointment comes a little over a week after industry veteran Andrew Mulholland was appointed Managing Director of the tour company’s Australia and New Zealand operations.

In the newly created role, Karbo will operate out of London where he’ll be responsible for leading the global operations and offices in London, Sydney, New York, Shanghai and Auckland. He’ll report to the operator’s Board of Directors.

2. Globus appoints digital marketing manager

The Globus family of brands has announced the appointment of Louise Percy as Digital Marketing Manager, based in the group’s Sydney headquarters.

A digital specialist with experience in both Australia and the UK, Louise will oversee the implementation of digital marketing strategies across the Globus, Cosmos, Avalon Waterways and Monograms brands.

She was previously Online Marketing Manager for G Adventures based in Melbourne and has held other roles including Online Marketing Specialist at healthcare group Bupa Australia and Brand Marketing Specialist at Bupa UK.

Globus National Marketing Manager Chris Fundell said Louise brought valuable expertise from both the digital and travel spheres.

 

3. Sabre APAC growth continues with new appointment

Sabre Corporation has named Todd Arthur vice president of sales and market development for Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific.

In this role, reporting to Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific senior vice president Roshan Mendis, Todd will be responsible for sales performance and business growth across Asia Pacific.

In addition to identifying and championing growth opportunities, Todd will also work closely with Sabre’s Asia Pacific product and technology teams to drive customer-centric solution development and deployment in the region.

Todd brings to Sabre more than 20 years of experience in the travel industry spanning Asia and North America. Most recently he was Managing Director for HRS in Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Prior to that he held senior management and business development positions for companies including BCD Travel, Advito, Finnair and Malaysia Airlines. He also represents Asia on the board of directors of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives.

Todd will be based at Sabre’s Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Singapore.

 

4. Jeffrey Goh to lead the Star Alliance in 2017

The Chief Executive Board of Star Alliance has appointed Jeffrey Goh as the Alliance’s Chief Executive, effective 1 January 2017, to succeed Mark Schwab, who will retire at the end of the year.

Jeffrey Goh will head Star Alliances Services GmbH, the Germany-based brand and project management company which coordinates the activities of the world’s largest and most experienced airline alliance.

Jeffrey Goh is currently Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Star Alliance, with responsibilities including strategy and membership development, human resources, joint sourcing and fuel-related projects, as well as legal, finance and project Management.

He joined Star Alliance in 2007 from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and prior to that taught and practised law. He holds a doctorate in the principles and policies of regulating airline competition and regulation.

 

5. Starwood expands in Sydney with two new recruits

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) is pleased to announce the expansion of the Starwood Sales Organisation with two appointments to the Sydney office.

Carolin Thievessen joins as Account Director and will be responsible for maintaining, developing and managing a portfolio of global accounts in the meetings and incentives space.

As Account Director for the Global Leisure and Luxury Sales team, Bridget Kroll will be representing Starwood’s luxury portfolio, including St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, W Hotels and The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, from the Australian and New Zealand point of sale.

Acting as the first level of contact and support for their clients, Carolin and Bridget will ensure client goals and requirements are always met, whilst also looking for new ways to maximise revenue and generate new business opportunities.

Prior to this role, Carolin held the position of Account Manager, Global Group Sales in the Starwood Sales Office for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Like Carolin, Bridget also joins the Sydney team from overseas. Hailing from Washington DC, Bridget’s previous experience as the Account Director, Business Travel for W Washington DC sees her bring invaluable knowledge and insight to her new position.

In their new roles, Carolin Thievessen and Bridget Kroll will report to Karryn Cutcheon, Director – Starwood Sales Organisation, Sydney.
