1. Locomote appoints new executive team

Australian corporate travel platform Locomote, announced the appointment of a string of travel industry hires to spearhead the growth of the company and the success of its pioneering technology.

New additions to the Locomote team include Bryan Carroll as Chief Operating Officer along with Pip Spibey-Dodd as Chief Financial Officer, and Aleksandra Bugajewska as People & Culture Leader. Co-founder David Fastuca takes on the role of Chief Marketing Officer, having previously worked as the company’s Chief Design Officer.

CEO, Sandra McLeod, along with the newly enhanced Executive team, will drive Locomote’s growth in Australia in its bid to redefine corporate travel with its innovative technology solution which has been designed to make booking business travel easier and more efficient.

McLeod said the appointment of the new hires positions Locomote for continued success as it establishes itself as a global player in the corporate travel industry.

The appointments come on the heels of recent investments by global travel commerce platform Travelport, which has a majority stake in Locomote.

 

2. Metro Hotels appoints new BDM for NSW & Victoria

Metro Hotels has appointed Darryl Montu to the role of Business Development Manager for NSW and Victoria.

In this role Darryl is responsible for maintaining and growing the domestic leisure, corporate and government business for Metro Hospitality Group’s seven properties in NSW and Victoria.

The position reports to Metro Hotels Director of Sales & Marketing, Rachel Pirie,  who today welcomed Darryl’s appointment.

Darryl has a career background spanning many well-known hotel and travel brands including Aspen Parks & Resorts, Holiday Inn Darling Harbour and Star Ratings Australia.

 

3. Senior management team announced for Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour

AccorHotels has named Greg Brady as General Manager and Marie-Cecile Heritage as Director of Sales & Marketing for the highly-anticipated new Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, due for completion in the third quarter of 2017.

Brady comes to the Sofitel Luxury Hotels brand with more than 27 years of experience in the hospitality industry.  This includes nine years with AccorHotels in Australia. Prior to that, Brady held a variety of General Manager and other key hotel positions with leading accommodation groups such as Intercontinental Hotel Group and Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Most recently Brady was General Manager at the 517-room Mercure Hotel Sydney, one of the network’s major landmark hotels – a role that has provided an invaluable understanding of the broader Darling Harbour and central Sydney precinct, given its proximity to Central Station, Broadway, China Town and Darling Harbour.

Brady will direct the hotel’s operations aside luxury hotel specialist Marie-Cecile Heritage (nee Dumond) who has been appointed to the role of Director of Sales & Marketing for the new upscale address.

 

4. Flight Centre’s new appointment

It’s sometimes difficult to picture the offline and online world working in unison, especially in travel, but it’s now Atle Skalleberg’s job to make it happen for Flight Centre.

The former Managing Director of Flight Centre-owned StudentUniverse has been appointed to the newly created role of Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and is responsible not only for increasing the company’s online presence, but assisting it in becoming a global leader in blending offline and online travel services.

In his new role, Skalleberg will continue to be based out of Boston, where he’ll work with teams in the American city as well as the Brisbane HQ to provide e-commerce, mobile development, online marketing and business intelligence services to Flight Centre’s leisure brands globally.

5. Captain Cook Cruises Fiji welcome ships New Senior Master

Captain Cook Cruises Fiji is delighted to announce the appointment of Captain Ian Davison as Senior Master aboard MV Reef Endeavour.

Captain Ian rejoins the Captain Cook Cruises family after previously being employed with the company as Mate and Master on the Reef Endeavour when she cruised the Great Barrier Reef from 1999 to 2008.

Over the next seven years Captain Ian gained experience as Master on other ocean going and coastal ships. He worked with various companies including Coral Princess Cruises, International Maritime Services and Samson Express Offshore, before returning to the Reef Endeavour this year.

Captain Ian developed a love for the sea from an early age. Growing up in Brisbane his parents had a holiday house at Point Lookout North Stradbroke Island and all of his school holidays and most weekends were spent surfing and spear fishing.  Here is where he also first went to sea, launching boats on the beach with fisherman his family had befriended.

His love of the sea has never diminished; with every job he’s ever had being on a ship at sea.

Captain Ian is happy to be back on the Reef Endeavour and is looking forward to exploring the Fiji Islands.

Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, Australian Managing Director, Jackie Charlton, welcomes Captain Ian back to the team and looks forward to working with him again.

Previous Reef Endeavor Captain, Chris Marshall continues to consult for Captain Cook Cruises and will offer short relief.

 

6. AFTA board elects Chairman & two Vice Chairman

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents has announced the following office bearers of the AFTA Board of Directors following their meeting held post the AFTA AGM 15 July 2016.

Elected Chairman for his 8th term, Mike Thompson of Helloworld Ltd was returned as Chairman.

Elected Vice Chairman for his 8th term, Graham Turner of Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd was returned as Vice Chairman.

The AFTA constitution allows for two Vice Chair’s to be elected and for his first term as Vice Chair, Christian Hunter of Travellers Choice was elected to the second vice chair role for the first time.

The AFTA Board of Directors continues to service the membership and the broader industry on a range of important subjects which impact travel agencies across the country.
