Last week we wrote this article on the different stages agents routinely move through as they evolve from green-behind-the-ears novices to consummate travel professionals.
It was meant to be a light-hearted article intended to entertain and inspire a few chuckles around the office, and we certainly didn’t expect the huge response we received on Facebook, with over 80 likes, 12 shares, and over 16,000 people reached.
But what we really dug were the comments. Dozens of you commented on the article and told us and the wider KarryOn collective where exactly you were in your travel careers, and so we thought it a great idea to write a re-cap of some of those responses to inspire, educate and, of course, entertain.
So without further ado, this is what you guys had to say about the evolutionary path of the humble Travel Agent.
Everyone knows how hard it is when starting out, and some Travel Agents felt it necessary to highlight this and offer support to some of their newbie colleagues…
With some agents even reassuring their work-mates that they’re actually more ahead in the game than they think…
Aren’t Travel Agents just the nicest people ever?!
Some agents even used the comments section as a job advertisement board, calling out to other guns in the industry willing to join their team…
And it worked, with this Travel Agent putting up their hand and proudly referencing their many years of expereince…

Other agents simply used the occassion to toot their own horn…
Provoking some hilarious social media banter…
Other Travel Agents took the conversation back to the article itself, and vouched for its accuracy…
Whilst others had their concerns over how the article portrayed them…
Could some of us be in denial? Ha!
However, not everyone that commented still worked in the industry. This ex-agent couldn’t be happier after giving it all up and embarking on a totally different career path.
Whilst others didn’t leave the industry, but merely switched environments, from retail to corporate…
Or from being an employee to running their own travel business…
Remember guys: there are so many opportunities in the travel industry, and you’d be crazy to stick around in a position or environment that doesn’t suit you. Whether that means switching from retail to corporate, or working for someone else to being your own boss, the world is your oyster (card): where do you want to be be?
