INDUSTRY FIRST: Travellers Choice opens doors to independent agents, strengthening industry unity

Travellers Choice will open part of its 2025 Melbourne conference to independent travel agency owners, inviting non-members to attend the Preferred Supplier Expo and key Saturday sessions on 29 November.

The decision marks an industry first for the retail sector, as one of Australia’s most awarded agency networks extends its flagship event to the broader independent community.

Travellers Choice Managing Director Christian Hunter said the move recognises how difficult it can be for independent agents to connect with suppliers amid staffing and operational pressures.

“Given the ongoing pressures around staff recruitment and retention, we know many independent agents struggle to find the time or opportunities to meet face-to-face with suppliers, and the challenge is even greater for those outside of metropolitan centres,” he said.

Managing Director Christian Hunter says the open invitation helps independents connect with suppliers.

“Throwing open the doors to our Preferred Supplier Exhibition will give agents a chance to connect with leading travel companies and tourism organisations. At the same time, it hopefully provides agents with a little insight into the welcoming and supportive culture for which Travellers Choice is renowned.”

Inside the 2025 Travellers Choice conference

The 2025 Travellers Choice Conference will combine business sessions, supplier engagement and celebration across three days, from 28 to 30 November, at CENTREPIECE, Melbourne Park. Members will take part in the group’s AGM and National Awards Gala Dinner, while the Saturday program expands access to include non-member independent agency owners.

Independent visitors will be able to meet preferred suppliers, attend key presentations and see how the network operates at scale. The open format is designed to help independents build commercial links, access product updates and engage directly with industry leaders such as Managing Director Christian Hunter, ATIA CEO Dean Long and business growth specialist Matt Alderton.

Independent agents can attend the Preferred Supplier Expo and key sessions on 29 November, including a presentation by award-winning business growth expert Matt Alderton.
