Australian tourism and aviation industry veteran Max Kingston has died in Sydney aged 88 and is remembered by colleagues and loved ones as a cherished member of the Rex Airlines family due to his 18-year role as a Rex Ambassador.

Mr Kingston began his career with the Bank of NSW Travel Service in 1956, later working around the world. In 1992, he was appointed as World President of the industry networking organisation, Skål.

Rex has paid special tribute to the travel and aviation industry veteran, who was an airline Ambassador for 18 years and a much-loved member of the Rex family.

He regularly attended the airline’s functions from route launches to charity events with his last public appearance at Rex’s recent 20th birthday celebrations.

Fellow Rex Ambassador and former Federal Member for Riverina Kay Hull led the tributes.

“Max was an extraordinary gentleman that never lost sight of the ordinary and for whom the introduction of a walking stick made him even more distinguished,” she said.

“He became a very dear friend to all of us over our time as Ambassadors, where the calls went from every few weeks to every few days all the way through the pandemic.

“His generous and caring nature extended to his shopping for food and essentials to collecting and putting out the garbage for all those who had COVID in his block of units.

“He had such pride in recently being headhunted as Commissionaire for the Fullerton Hotel and what a gem they engaged. What Max has given to so many over his well-lived life cannot be measured. He will be in our hearts for all time,” Ms Hull said.

Adding to the tributes to Mr Kingston, Rex Executive Chairman Lim Kim Hai said: “The Rex family lost a very dear friend and a fervent and constant supporter.”

Karryon sends our sincere condolences to the Kingston family and everyone at Rex.
