After announcing game-changing Qantas direct Melbourne-Exmouth flights will commence on 30 April 2023, Tourism Western Australia and Qantas hosted a VIP dinner in Melbourne to celebrate the new seasonal service.

Fifty Melbourne trade and travel media guests enjoyed an exclusive evening featuring local WA specialties, including seafood and wine, hosted by Tourism WA at St Kilda’s West Beach Pavilion.

As Exmouth is the gateway to World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef, a highlight of the evening was Live Ningaloo’s presentation on the incredible experience of swimming with whale sharks.

The new, non-stop seasonal flight between Tullamarine Airport and Exmouth’s Learmonth Airport will operate twice weekly between April and October 2023, saving more than three hours’ travel time compared to flying via Perth.

The direct flight brings the East Coast closer to Australia’s Coral Coast and the 2022 Australian Tourism Awards’ Small Tourism Town of the Year, Exmouth.

Tourism WA Managing Director Carolyn Turnbull said tourists will now have even more options to fly direct to Exmouth and explore Western Australia’s World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef.

“Our new global tourism brand ‘Walking On A Dream’ is creating a terrific buzz on the East Coast so this new initiative with Qantas will drive visitation to Western Australia and help interstate travellers meet a key component of the brand, the whale shark, up close and personal,” Ms Turnbull said.
