If you are looking for an adventure, then Ireland is most definitely the right place to be.

Tourism Ireland has got you covered with everything you need to know about the great Irish outdoors.

One day you could be golfing at the edge of the Atlantic, the next, you’re ziplining through a forest or hiking through the hills!

Here’s a sneak peek of five epic outdoor experiences that will have you packing your coat and dreaming of that wild wind in your hair:

Walking and Hiking in Ireland

Ireland’s landscape and terrain vary richly from valleys to peaks, forests to bogs, beaches to canal banks.

The coastal walks along the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland are probably the most popular, but there are plenty of other off-the-beaten-track options, and the island hosts around 30-40 walking festivals a year!

So, what is a walking festival you ask? Well, it’s basically a long weekend of walking and talking with locals and fellow walkers, followed by evenings in pubs with new friends.

Cycling Ireland

On ‘ya bike. Literally. From the casual rider to the experienced mountain biker, Ireland is a cycling playground!

Across the island, you’ll find a number of Greenways. For those who don’t know, Greenways are trails built to be used exclusively by cyclists and walkers and are generally traffic-free; making them even more peaceful.

In fact, you’ll find Greenways all over Ireland, often on old rail trails boasting spectacular scenery.

Kayaking Ireland

There are so many rivers, lakes and waterways in Ireland that make it a paddler’s paradise.

For something a little more mysterious and magical, glowing waters can be found in Kerry and Cork.

Here, bioluminescent plankton shines under the stars turning the waters a ghostly blue. If you’re feeling brave, you can even go night-time kayaking in Cork to witness this phenomenon!

SUP and Surfing in Ireland

So, you might want to pack your wetsuit for this one, but we promise, it’s worth it.

For surfers, there is no better place to take to the water than Ireland’s surf capital – Bundoran in County Donegal, which is also home to the Sea Sessions Music Festival – one of the coolest and quirkiest festivals on the calendar, and one of Ireland’s top music festivals.

If you’re more of a fan of staying on the water, a stand-up paddleboarding tour on the River Foyle in Derry-Londonderry is a must.

Golf in Ireland

We’re not lying when we say you’re going to have the most spectacular round of your life in Ireland. (Location-wise, that is – but hopefully, you’ll play well too!)

World-class championship courses? Check. Dramatic cliff edge golf? Check. Over 400 clubs to choose from? Check. A ‘good craic’ after every round? Check.

And did we mention Ireland has won International Golf Destination of the Year on more than one occasion? Not surprising really, is it?
