ADRENALINE PUMPING: The world’s biggest catapult just opened in New Zealand

Thrill seekers, here’s a brand new experience for your bucket list: a “gut-wrenching” catapult that reaches speeds of nearly 100 kilometres per hour in 1.5 seconds while throwing you 150 metres out across a ravine.

Billed as one of the world’s most extreme rides, the Nevis Catapult has officially launched at AJ Hackett bungy in the Nevis Valley near Queenstown in New Zealand.

Unlike a bungy, the catapult launches you straight out in one direction before dropping you. Kind of like a giant slingshot.

Overall the surreal, adrenaline pumping experience lasts up to 4 minutes.

AJ Hackett co-founder Henry van Asch reckons the most exciting part of the ride is just how surprising it is.

“The speed, the height and then the sudden drop. You don’t know exactly when you’re going to go either and that adds to the fun.”

Van Asch told media yesterday that the ride had been almost 30 years in the making.

First to try out the new attraction were Aussie Go-Pro ambassadors Sam Evans and Kurt Tilse.

Kurt said on his Instagram page that riding The Nevis Catapult was one of “the scariest, most exciting experiences” of his life so far.

“Something you may not know about me is I have a HUGE fear of heights,” he said.

One of New Zealand’s biggest secrets has finally launched today! We got to be the first to experience @ajhackettbungynz Nevis Catapult! It was one of the scariest, most exciting experiences I have ever been apart of! Something you may not know about me is I have a HUGE fear of heights. It took a lot of encouragement for me to get up there and be catapulted off a ledge, 120m in the air! This is definitely worth facing your fears, it literally feels like you are flying! – Thankyou to @ajhackettbungynz #livemorefearless @purenewzealand #NZMustDo @goproanz #Hero6 for letting us be apart of the experience!
