When you think of flying to the major hubs in Canada, Air Canada is often front of mind but they can also whisk you away to some super cool places in North America you may not have thought.

Air Canada is Canada’s largest domestic and international airline serving more than 200 airports on six continents.

So, where can they take you? Well, we’ve put together a list of the 10 ‘coolest’ places you can travel on the Air Canada network from the weird to the wonderful and a little bit of funky in-between.

1. MEDICINE HAT

Okay, we started with the weird here – Medicine Hat is a small city in Southeast Alberta. You’re probably thinking this city has the best patient health files on record – wrong!

It’s best known for being Canada’s sunniest city with 2,512 hours of sunlight annually (104 full days!).

2. ROUYN-NORAND

Bordering the beautiful lake of Osisko, this town is part of the Quebec region and has four little buses to service the entire public transport system – similar to Brisbane!

Seriously though, this city is relatively ‘new’ and is famous for its extensive copper deposits and mining/smelting activities.

3. SMITHERS

Simpsons’ Fans – add this to your list. Unfortunately, there are no yellow cartoons in this town just lots of Alpine and snow themed shops.

If you love hiking, camping or fishing – this is the best place to be without all the tourists & only a two-hour flight north of Vancouver!

4. YELLOWKNIFE

No doubt you’ve seen the glass-domed igloos that offer uninterrupted views of the aurora borealis?

Well, at Aurora Village in Yellowknife, you can experience the beautiful light spectacular from their beautiful canvas lit tepee’s. Talk about breathtaking!

5. NANAIMO

Why go to Nanaimo? A coastal city on Vancouver Island, this part of the world is the Bathtub Racing capital of the world.

The first race took place in 1967 to showcase Nanaimo to the world and contestants are required to use a bathtub boat. Literally, floating your boat!

6. BOISE

Named the number one adventure capital of America, Boise was named by Bike Magazine as the top mountain biking town in the entire country.

You’ll also find it’s illegal to ride merry-go rounds on Sunday’s & they are most famous for unanimously hating the band Nickelback. It’s the perfect city in every way!

7. REGINA

Fun fact #465 – Every Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer in Canada has undergone police training at Depot Division in Regina.

It’s hard to get more iconically Canadian than this. Did we mention the Government house in the centre of town is haunted by a ghost named Howie?

8. GASPE

The name Gaspe is derived from the meaning “end”, referring to the end of the land. With its famous sheer rock formation just offshore, “pierced” by one of the world’s largest natural arches.

That route along the remote shoreline is a vacation in itself, stopping to camp or stay in a bed-and-breakfast.

9. SARNIA

Boasting as the largest city on Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes of North America – this town is the perfect place to centre yourself and explore.

If you’re particularly interested in shipwrecks, you will love that there are over 1,000 laying at the bottom of the lake. You won’t find the gold from the Titanic though – sorry.

10. DEER LAKE

The Town of Deer Lake is located at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and the Viking Trail on Newfoundland and Labrador’s west coast.

If all you’re imaging is animals than yes, this is the home of the Newfoundland and Labrador Retriever dogs! You thought there would be Deer, right? Sorry! Just an abundance of beautiful scenery, winter snow sports & some of the best bird watching in Canada!

It’s never been simpler to explore Canada, with Air Canada offering smooth connections to over 60 destinations throughout the Great White North.
