Showcasing the latest films direct from the U.S. indie festival scene, the American Airlines sponsored program features some of the most unique and acclaimed independent cinema across a range of genres including thriller, melodrama, culture and music.

Commenting on the partnership, Craig Gibbons, Regional Director Australia & New Zealand for Discover Los Angeles said, “Los Angeles has long been considered the entertainment capital of the world and the historical home of movie-making, so we’re thrilled to be able to bring some of that movie-magic to Australians next month.”

Highlights of the American Essential Film Festival include the highly-anticipated 70s-era tale of love and loss, 20th Century Women and the Australian Premier of 55 Steps, featuring the acclaimed Helena Bonham Carter.

The festival runs for three weeks, from 8 May – 20 May at Palace Cinemas in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne.
