800K trees! Flight Centre & Reforest dig deep in Morocco for Planting for the Planet program

Flight Centre Travel Group and Reforest continue to grow their partnership as senior leaders recently travelled to Morocco’s Atlas Mountains to witness firsthand where 800,000 trees will be planted as part of the Planting for the Planet initiative.

Flight Centre Travel Group and Reforest continue to grow their partnership as senior leaders recently travelled to Morocco’s Atlas Mountains to witness firsthand where 800,000 trees will be planted as part of the Planting for the Planet initiative.

Flight Centre Global Managing Director Andrew Stark, FCTG Founder & CEO Graham “Skroo” Turner and other senior leaders along with Reforest Founders Daniel Walsh and Tim Stainlay visited the country for the hands-on trip ahead of FCTG Global Gathering 2024.

Stark said visiting Morocco and spending time with the communities directly impacted by Planting for the Planet was rewarding as the Group also eyes other conservation opportunities.

“I was overwhelmed seeing the many social and economic benefits the planting of a simple tree can foster in communities and humbled to meet with the locals of the Atlas Mountains who were incredibly welcoming and hospitable,” he said.

“This program has been so well received by our customers and we’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with Reforest as we explore additional opportunities.

“Something we’re actively working on is how we can contribute to ocean-based projects, such as mangrove planting, as our Aussie cruise segment continues to grow in popularity.”

In less than 12 months, the joint project has already committed to planting 1.3 million trees to benefit reforestation programs and communities worldwide, including Australia’s Wimmera Habitat Corridor, Patui Ancient Reforestation in New Zealand and Vancouver Island.

The Planting for the Planet program launched in August 2023 and involves a contribution from Flight Centre customers as part of every Captain’s Pack purchase.

Reforest Co-Founder & CEO Daniel Walsh said it was incredible to see the meaningful contributions of the two Brisbane-based businesses up close in Morocco.

“Nature-positive campaigns are becoming more important to all travellers as we all seek to explore the world in a way that is socially and environmentally conscious. Planting for the Planet is exactly that in action and why so many people have embraced it,” he said.
