Flight Centre and Reforest, a climate-focused social enterprise, have announced that they have exceeded their annual planting target in a joint global greening initiative.
The achievement of planting one million trees four months ahead of time comes after the launch of the online retailer’s Captain’s Pack in August 2023.
Flight Centre Global Managing Director Andrew Stark said the company was thrilled with the uptake of Planting for the Planet through the customer sales of its Captain’s Pack.
“We set out to do something significant through our generous customers and in partnership with a credible sustainability partner in Reforest,” he said.
“Planting for the Planet has seen a million trees be committed across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Morocco, with half of them already planted, and the remainder to come later this year.
“As one of the world’s largest travel retailers, we recognise our responsibility to preserve and enrich the places we love.”
Reforest CEO Daniel Walsh said they were proud of what had been achieved in partnership with Flight Centre.
“It’s been incredible to see how seamlessly Flight Centre has embedded environmental care into their services, making a genuine commitment to combatting climate change and improving local communities,” he said.
“Planting for the Planet is a perfect example of a business championing and personalising nature repair and contributing to tangible environmental action.”
Flight Centre’s sales from across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the UK contribute to the Planting for the Planet project.
Planting for the Planet targets
- Atlas Mountains, Morocco: 730,000 trees
- Wimmera, Australia: 315,000 trees
- Patui Forest, New Zealand: 35,000 trees
- Vancouver Island wetlands, Canada: 6,000 trees
The program also has community benefits, such as in Morocco, where it supports a women’s co-op nursery and First Nations Berber community activity.
The Captain’s Pack includes travel benefits like lost baggage tracking and fee waivers, while also contributing to the Planting for the Planet initiative.
The program is a continuation of Flight Centre’s trailblazing partnership with Reforest to amplify the value and the purpose for conscious travellers.
