Intrepid has launched a new sustainability guide to help give agents clarity about what sustainable travel really is and inspire them to sell sustainability to clients.
Intrepid says it created the exclusive guide, ‘How to be a Champion of Change: An Agent’s Guide to Understanding Sustainable Travel’, because of a “lack of resources available to agents about what sustainability in travel actually means”.
Intrepid Travel’s Global Environmental Impact Manager, Dr Susanne Etti, says it will “digestibly break down what sustainable travel is and how agents should navigate difficult conversations with clients around minimising negative environmental and community impacts whilst travelling”.
“It’s a toolbox with facts and figures and product case studies, as well as sales pitch ideas and it’s really something agents can add to their skillset to explain sustainable travel and thereby sell more product, all while creating positive change in the world.”
“We hope by creating this guide, we can empower agents to become champions of change”.
Dr Etti says one of her favourite parts of the guide is how to spot false sustainability claims.
“It can be difficult to understand when claims are genuine, so we hope through the guide we can demystify sustainability and provide agents with more clarity.”
The future of travel
Dr Etti says the guide will help agents to advise tourists on ways they can ensure they are treading responsibly when they travel, and importantly, giving back to local communities.
“We need to plan now for a resilient, regenerative tourism sector. We must recognise that the future will be different from business-as-usual and that the climate crisis is not a competitive advantage.
“We must align, collaborate and accelerate collective action and innovation to decarbonise travel, as only then can our industry truly achieve its huge potential for sustainable development.”
Walking the talk
Intrepid has long been an advocate for sustainable practices across its operations, from animal welfare and community-based tourism to being B-Corp certified, which cements its commitment to using travel as a force for good in the world.
The Intrepid Foundation has been giving Intrepid travellers a chance to make a bigger impact in the places they visit for more than two decades, and has so far raised more than $15.5 million and supported more than 160 communities around the world.
The Foundation supports carefully chosen partners to make a positive impact and create solutions on important issues. This ensures that donations aren’t just about giving back, but are giving responsibly and where it’s really needed.
