This World Tourism Day, September 27, 2024, Destination Think, in partnership with numerous global destinations, has launched a 100 Travel Innovations campaign, showcasing transformative solutions to address environmental, economic, and social challenges in tourism.
The “100 Travel Innovations” campaign is an ambitious but much-needed global initiative developed in collaboration with destinations from across six continents and over 35 countries.
This groundbreaking highlights innovations in sustainable travel designed to address critical environmental, economic, and social challenges facing the tourism industry.
Presented as an online mosaic, the campaign features innovations from diverse destinations, including Australia, Copenhagen, the Cook Islands, New Zealand, Colorado, and Vancouver Island. These innovations aim to amplify sustainable travel practices and inspire transformative change by focusing on issues such as biodiversity, climate resilience, cultural preservation, and community prosperity.
Rodney Payne, CEO of Destination Think, emphasised the tourism industry’s responsibility to drive global progress through collaboration. “We believe the tourism industry is uniquely positioned to connect people, foster new perspectives, and lead by example,” Payne said.
“This program is a step toward fulfilling that responsibility, showing how innovation in tourism can shape a better world.”
The launch features the first 100 innovations selected by Destination Think’s editorial team in collaboration with leading destination management organisations and sustainable tourism experts. Todd Montgomery, director of the Sustainable Tourism Lab at Oregon State University, provided advisory support throughout the process.
In addition to the 100 Travel Innovations initiative, Destination Think is hosting “24 Hours of Travel Innovation,” a free online event featuring presentations from global tourism leaders and the premiere of a film that explores tourism’s key role in driving positive change through collaboration.
By showcasing these 100 real-life examples, the campaign encourages travellers, destinations, and industry stakeholders to adopt more responsible travel choices and make meaningful contributions to climate action and community wellbeing. The innovations will continue to grow beyond the initial launch, with more examples added to inspire sustainable tourism efforts worldwide.
In addition to the innovations, an integrated campaign across the United States and the United Kingdom will promote the initiative, amplifying its reach. Through the combined efforts of destinations and travellers, the campaign aims to spark a global movement for a greener, more sustainable future in tourism.
100 Travel Innovations is a transformative resource for those who are ready to take action on the environmental, economic, and social challenges we all face.
