$3.6b Delta Sky Way at LAX complete, making it easier to move around hub

Getting around Los Angeles International Airport just got easier ... In welcome news for LA-bound travellers, and some 18 months ahead of schedule, Delta Air Lines and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) have revealed the final phase of the US$2.3 billion (AU$3.6 billion) Delta Sky Way at LAX.

Getting around Los Angeles International Airport just got easier … In welcome news for LA-bound travellers, and some 18 months ahead of schedule, Delta Air Lines and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) have revealed the final phase of the US$2.3 billion (AU$3.6 billion) Delta Sky Way at LAX.

With the opening of the last major phase of the project, Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Terminal 3 will now link directly to Tom Bradley International Terminal via airside travelators, meaning passengers will no longer need to bus between terminals.

“This modern, state-of-the-art facility has been at the centre of Delta’s efforts to become the premier airline of Los Angeles, and now, as we as we celebrate this years-long project being finished much earlier than expected, we are better equipped than ever to provide Angelenos and all of our customers travelling through LA with the truly seamless and elevated experience that they deserve,” Delta Air Lines Vice President of Global Sales Scott Santoro said.

In April 2022, the first phase of the new Delta Sky Way – a 27-gate complex featuring a centralised check-in area, expanded security checkpoint and baggage claim zone – opened to customers, along with the terminal’s new, premier Delta Sky Club.

A new T3 facility, which comprises nine new gates and seating areas, followed in September that year.

The opening of the airline’s west head-house and Delta One check-in area then opened in June 2023, giving passengers another entry point for check-in and security access.

“Having just celebrated the opening of LAX’s Terminal 3 West Head-house and already hearing an incredible amount of positive feedback on that aspect of the project, I know we can expect similar praise on the new Terminal 3 and Tom Bradley International Terminal post-security connector,” LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci said.

“This new passageway will significantly enhance the travel experience for millions of international and domestic guests.

“LAWA is thankful to its amazing partners Delta and Hensel Phelps and the entire LAWA team who rose to the occasion to deliver the Delta Sky Way project.”
