Trouble in paradise? Less Love Island, more love on the rocks? It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that not all couple holidays are smooth sailing as two in five Australians admit to arguing with their spouse or partner while travelling.
A new TravelInsurance.com.au survey showed 40 per cent of Aussies have argued with their significant other while on holiday together with getting lost (22%), overspending (17%) and lack of space/too much time together (16%) as the top three triggers.
This includes one in five (21%) who said they’d had at least one spat during a trip, and 14 per cent of Aussies who admitted to bickering multiple times while on holiday.

For some things got even more dramatic with four per cent saying the arguments on holidays nearly ruined the getaway, while one per cent revealed the fights led to a breakup.
Almost one in four Aussies (24%) don’t travel with a partner at all.
When it comes to travel, maturity may be the key to getting along with Baby Boomers most likely to say they get along best with their partner while travelling (42%), followed by Gen Xers (39%).

In contrast, just 29 per cent of Millennials and 27 per cent of Gen Z said the same.
Other relatable travel arguments on holidays triggers include running late or missing flights (13%), choosing where to eat and one person doing all the planning (both 9%).
