As industry professionals and organisers of travel you’ve probably heard all the cancellation excuses in the book.
It’s hard to believe anyone would want to cancel a holiday – it’s not a chore like when you were in school and were quick to use the excuse ‘my dog ate it’ (aka you just weren’t bothered to do it) to get out of homework.
Holidays are meant to be an enjoyable getaway from everyday life and most of us can’t wait to escape.
However, sometimes life does step in and force us to cancel.
And while for the most part reasons for cancellation are common and serious, there are others out there that are let’s just say, incredibly imaginative.
Online hotel booking site, Wotif, has compiled some of their most memorable travel cancellation excuses for our enjoyment.
Here are the top five:
5. One didn’t realise they needed a passport to travel to New Zealand
4. One said they had a cold – four months before the booking
3. One didn’t know the international airport was for flying to another country
2. One broke his/her hip doing the splits while playing cricket
1. And finally, one didn’t want to get his/her car dirty when driving up the dirt driveway of the property
Wotif released the list of most memorable cancellations to commemorate the removal of its cancellation and itinerary changes fee.
According to the online booking site, the most common reasons for cancelling or changing a booking are sickness, injury and event change.
