Accessible tourism has never been more important, as more and more travel and tourism operators embrace this surprisingly large sector.
With this in mind, Destination Gold Coast launched its first-ever trade roadshow in Brisbane last night, where the focus was well and truly on accessible tourism.
The event welcomed over 120 agents, with some 20 Destination Gold Coast members – including Gold Coast-based accommodation providers, attractions and tour operators – providing an update on new developments and attractions whilst highlighting accessible tourism.
Members also shared tips on how to provide expert service for this much-needed sector.
With NDIS support workers also in attendance, one of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, a voluntary tool that helps those living or travelling with a disability communicate their impairment in a sensitive way.
Those using this tool can opt to wear the Sunflower discreetly on transport, at shops, at work or in public spaces if they feel they may need assistance or even just an understanding of their condition.
The Sunflower’s usefulness is reflected in the number of members who have already taken part in the program.
Destination Gold Coast also showcased the City Of Gold Coast’s first-of-its-kind new accessible guide for agents to download here.
The Destination Gold Coast event also promoted the VacayIT audio guide app, which will soon include 20 experience clips, comprising eight to ten minute audio guides of experiences in the Gold Coast.
Next week, the roadshow will be hitting Melbourne and Sydney.
