The Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa has officially opened Urban Sugar, Fiji’s first two-level, European-inspired beach club. Located on Wailoaloa Beach, the venue aims to provide an elevated beachfront experience for both resort guests and visitors. The new addition is set to position the resort as a notable destination in the region for leisure and entertainment.
Urban Sugar’s design incorporates an infinity pool, a modern dining area, and an expansive deck with views of Wailoaloa Beach and Nadi Bay. The beach club is open to the public, offering a setting for social gatherings, dining, and live entertainment. A highlight of the venue is its emphasis on music, with live performances from local artists and DJs as well as international acts scheduled from Wednesday to Sunday.
Dining and drinks
The menu at Urban Sugar focuses on shared dining experiences, featuring set menus designed for groups. Offerings include fresh seafood, grilled meats, and Fijian-inspired bites, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
The drinks menu provides a selection of champagnes, Provençal rosés, local and international beers, and bespoke spirits ranging from gin to whiskey.
Happy hour is available daily from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, catering to both casual visitors and those seeking a curated beverage experience.
Private events
Urban Sugar’s upper deck can accommodate up to 100 guests for private events, including parties, corporate functions, and special occasions.
According to Shaun Parsons, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Fiji, the venue’s flexibility makes it an attractive choice for groups looking to host events in a beachfront setting.
“Urban Sugar strengthens our commitment to making Crowne Plaza a destination for travellers,” he said.
‘It adds another dimension to our resort offering, complementing the renovations and new developments we’ve introduced throughout the year.”
A strategic addition to Crowne Plaza’s offerings
The launch of Urban Sugar aligns with the resort’s strategy to expand its facilities and enhance its appeal to both local and international markets.
The beach club is part of a broader development plan at the resort. The resort’s offerings will continue to expand into the new year when Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa will open two additional resort pools, a dedicated Tutuwalu Kids Club, and a Convention Centre capable of hosting up to 900 guests. These developments aim to position the resort as a multi-faceted destination catering to leisure travellers, families, and business events.
The addition of Urban Sugar in particular is expected to enhance the resort’s competitive position in the Fijian hospitality market. Its blend of European-inspired design, local influences, and varied entertainment options offers something distinct compared to other venues in the region.
By opening the beach club to both resort guests and the general public, Crowne Plaza aims to create a destination that appeals broadly to locals, tourists, and business travellers.
The focus on live entertainment, particularly the inclusion of local talent alongside international DJs, aligns with the resort’s objective of integrating into the local community while offering a high-quality experience. Additionally, the emphasis on group dining and private events reflects a response to trends in social and corporate travel, where shared experiences are increasingly valued.
With its strategic location 15 minutes from Nadi International Airport, the resort is well-positioned to capture both transit and destination travellers. The introduction of Urban Sugar not only enhances the resort’s leisure offerings but also contributes to its overall appeal as a high-end venue for dining, entertainment, and events.
This new offering in Fiji is part of Crowne Plaza’s broader expansion strategy, which includes its first Australian airport hotel. The recently opened Crowne Plaza Sydney Airport caters to both business and leisure travellers. Located near the domestic terminal, the property offers convenience and modern amenities, marking a significant milestone for the brand in the Australian market.
